Diet Plan & Health Support Consultation – CAD $300

This is the option for a dog who has a serious health condition, one or more, who will likely require some follow-up support, who can benefit from personalized herbal suggestions, and who will prefer to have more than one recipe to rotate (in most cases).

This is an online, nutrition and herbal consultation for dogs who are facing health challenges. It begins with a thorough assessment of your dog via a detailed Intake form, which covers veterinary, nutrition and behavioural history. The next step is a process of nutrient calculation, so all requirements relative to your dog’s body weight, age and activity level will be precisely covered – and finally, I develop the recipe/herbal recommendations and write them up for you with clear instructions as to preparation and transition. For the herbal aspect, I need some extra information, often involving photos of your dog. I will usually require some information from your vet, such as blood work results, and am always happy to speak directly with him or her, via email or phone, regarding my protocol and herbal selection.

I can formulate weekly batches for you to prepare ahead of time, or smaller recipes are available as an option for those who prefer to cook 1-2 days at a time; I use raw or cooked as each case suggests is optimal. Once you have booked, the site will issue you the Intake form as well as a link to Welcome Notes, which cover more detail on how the consultation works. I will email personally and confirm your date. My waiting list is currently approximately two weeks, although I can usually make room quickly for urgent cases.

This service covers five hours of my clinical time, which is typically spread over a few weeks. It provides you with therapeutic recipes, tailored to your dog’s nutrient requirements, as determined by the National Research Council’s Nutrient Requirements of Dogs (2006) but also geared to the specific needs of the condition(s) you are seeking help with. It has been my experience that this time frame is plenty for us to meet the goals of the consultation; in the event more time is needed, such as very complex cases or multiple food intolerances, affordable extensions are available.

If your dog is able to tolerate a variety of foods, I endeavour to provide several recipes; this is usually possible, but may not work for food intolerance and allergy, at least not in the early stages of dietary support.

d

A full, personalized herbal protocol to support your dog’s general wellbeing and address health challenges as indicated. This is optional, for example if you already have an herbal protocol in place, I can simply use more of our time developing recipes.

The service also provides General Dietary Guidelines which help with your transition and what to monitor with the new recipes; I also send multiple Information Sheets containing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and pointers on everything from cooking techniques, substitutions, individual foods and their nutrient profiles, the truth about supplements, converting commonly used measurements, food storage and safety and of course, the dietary strategy we are utilizing for your dog’s health challenges (the details and the science)

There is no phone consultation involved with this service, but you can purchase 30 or 60 minutes if desired.

Full Service Follow-Up Service- CAD $125.00

Dogs with nutritionally-related health issues often require longer periods of testing and adjusting diets, after the initial consultation. Follow-up support is a service available to any client who has booked the Full Service (assessment, recipe and herbs) and requires a check in,recipe adjustment, second recipe or adjustment to the herbal protocol.  This enables us to work as a team to develop and fine-tune meal plans that suit your dog’s unique needs. It means I can monitor response to dietary changes and make adjustments as indicated.

Conditions that often require follow up include: allergies, food intolerance, cancer, kidney or liver disease, Addison’s or Cushing’s disease,  diabetes, obesity, pancreatitis, and some types of urolith.

Note that additional fees may apply to extremely labour-intensive cases, such as those that involve multiple conditions or require daily contact.  If so, it will be discussed and agreed beforehand.

E-mail Consultation for Herbs and Nutrition- CAD $75.00

This new Consultation Service offers you the opportunity to pick my brains on anything at all related to canine nutrition and herbs for dogs, via email, for a period of 90 minutes.

On my groups and here at the blog, I do my best to answer questions, especially those that can be handled easily in a few lines. But often, more is needed – more time, more detail and more personal attention.  Some people want to know which commercial diet might be ideal for their dog, or how to “top up” kibble wisely, with maximum health benefit. Others are starting a herb garden and want to know which herbs to grow, or how to stock up a home apothecary, or which herbs can be used to help support health in a healthy dog. Many have home cooking questions, about temperature, storage, food safety and more. The point of this Service is to offer my clients my undivided attention for as many questions as I can answer in 90 minutes of exchange. It allows me to focus, and provide answers to a range of questions,  and I can generally schedule a booking much more quickly than I can book a Health consult (which is running at 5 weeks waiting time as of now).

I look forward to “chatting” with you, and helping you find answers to your most pressing questions on canine nutrition and herbs for your dog!
